Hi Coach,
I love the academy so much I would stay even if we played in a cardboard box! I really would. Thats how much I love you and the academy.
your friend and devoted player,

Dear Joe,
Thanks for the great camp this week. Our son has come home tired but feeling good about basketball. My brother, a sports editor in Washington, hasn't seen him play since last spring and he couldn't believe the improvement.

Coach Joe,
On the behalf of my entire family, thank you so very much for all you do for my daughter!
As a current physical education teacher, it's very exciting to witness how many young lives you touch at your basketball academy. In addition, I watch
and listen carefully as you coach, so that I can be a better teacher and coach myself.
Sincerly,
Gary
|
Hi Joe,
You have been very helpful and kind to the kids. I am glad to hear that you are proud of my son
for two reasons. First, he really likes you and your thoughts mean a lot to him. Second, you have put so muh work into the kids and their successes
are a reflection and testament to your coaching and, more importantly, to your commitment to them as individuals.
Thanks for everything Joe.
Paul R.

Dear Joe,
I want to thank you for all the effort and time you put into Northwest Christian Basketball.
Your dedication was very influential on my personal success as well as the team.

Joe,
You are such a good coach. Your calculated, mellow but firm approach...very predictable and calm, is what kids need.
So, when I make a big deal out of your approach, and want to help your organization and you, it is for a reason.
Mary

Joe,
I wanted to write you about some things concerning my son's basketball skills. On
several occasions during practice, my son's coach would stop the players and use my son as an example.
During games, he always had his shield up and was the only player that accumulated 94 points for the season.
My son's coach considered him the team leader. Thank you for the superb job you consistently do with these young boys.
He even practices perfect form here at home without being aware that he's doing it. RBA has made a difference in his confidence
level in more ways than one. Once again, thank you Joe.
Sincerely,
Jill
|
Dear Coach,
I enjoyed watching the kids play. You are doing something great for the kids. The positive impact you are
making on those children will be with them their whole lives.
Coach Brian
|
Dear Joe,
Our son is having so much fun. He is now spending so much more time shooting hoops
than he is anything else combined. You have really motivated him and I know he is loving every minute!
Thanks again for such a positive and rewarding experience.

Hi Coach Joe Coelho,
I had the opportunity to meet you yesterday, as my son played in
your scrimmage tournament. Congratulations in advance on the efforts you and your staff are putting
forth in developing the youth. I share with you a STRONG passion for development of our youth.
What I observed yesterday was refreshing to say the least. I strongly offer my congratulations
to everyone involved with the Royal Basketball Academy, on positively touching the lives of youths with
background knowledge that can and will make a difference. Please let me know if I could meet you, and
bring my son to experience on of your Saturday afternoon clinics.
Thanks,
Coach Carl

Joe,
Thank you for being such a patient and tactful coach! Serena had one
of her best games today. The techniques she was able to use are directly a result of your teaching.
Cheers!

Hi Joe,
We all really liked the scene you have going on at the RBA. I really appreciated how are
sportsmanship improved after our short time with you--I don't think we were ever bad sports, but
we actuallyget complimented on it now, and that's definitely how we want to represent our team and town.
Coach Dan

Dear Joe,
I appreciate very much the diligent, excellent work you put into the
Academy, and how much our son and the other kids benefit from it. Of course the
basketball fundamentals you teach are very important. But I also really value the
"life" skills you teach. Keep up the great work!!!
Keep up the great work,
Paul & Family
|
Dear Coach,
Thank you for sharing your observations with me. A lot of her improvements
have to do with her participation in your academy, thank you.
Thanks a lot,
Dieter
|
Dear Coach Coelho,
We were all impressed with your program and would love for
our son to become a better player through this program.
Thank you,
Naomi

Joe,
I was traveling on Saturday so when I called home, Harley was pretty excited about the 1 on 1
contest. He really does enjoy the ime he has spent with you and your program. It looks like you really
have a great group of kids dedicated to developing their basketball skills.
Thanks again for letting him attend. Harley has really enjoyed it and learned a lot
in the two sessions that he's been able to attend. That's really the first coaching that
he's had and the first encouragement that he's received from a coach.
Many thanks,
Harley
|
Dear Joe,
Many thanks for your contributions to our camp last week! I enjoy your enthusiasm, coaching and station work.
We share a common intensity & passion that only a few coaches posses.
Please tell your players how much we appreciated their politeness & respect. Those things come from you.
Best wishes,

Dear Joe,
I just wanted to take the time to thank you for going the extra mile for the boys basketball team at Elmira High School.
Your commitment to arrive early when we are scheduled to practice right after school, your commitment to efficiency,
and your commitment to do the little unglamorous things have benefited our program.
I also wanted to thank your wife for her willingness to run the video-camera tonight, and your entire family for letting us have so much of your time.
You and your family are helping make Elmira basketball number one!
Sincerely,

Dear Joe,
Pat will make as many of your practices as he can because they are very important to him, particularly in the off-season.
Pat's Coach has seen a significant upgrade in Pat's level of play because of the time he had put in at your academy.
You have had a major positive impact on our son and will continue to do so in the future, and we appreciate it very much.
Enclosed is a contribution to the academy to further express our gratitude.
Sincerely, Lloyd and Karen

Hi Joe,
In the few weeks that Jordan has attended your skills development camp, she has started to improve on the skills that other coaches seem to ignore.
You expect a lot from your players but are fair and encouraging at the same time.
I can't tell you how long I have waited to find someone who is more concerned with teaching good fundamental skills than simply trying to find the best players for their team.
Jordie has a great deal of natural ability and practices her skills often. What I think she needs most is confidence.
I believe that what you teach will go a long way toward giving her that confidence.
I also like the way you encourage the kids to be good people. I believe that a good athlete can be both a fierce competitor and a good person; it appears that you share that believe as well.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to helping kids grow in basketball and life in general.
Sincerely, Brent
|
Dear Coach Coelho,
I wanted to write and thank you for you do for my daughter Hannah. It was so important to our family to see Hannah receive her "Top Trainers" basketball uniform.
I can't really express how grateful we are to the donors and BiMart Corporation.
Since the first day back in may when we came to the camp and you showed the kids the uniforms, Hannah has been working harder than I have ever seen her work before to earn one.
I don't really think she really understood why I was so happy to have found your camp. We came to love basketball after we joined the Academy!
So it is with pride that Hannah wears her "Top Trainer" uniforms and with great thanks to you and the sponsors. I makes our entire family happy to see Hannah involved with your academy.
So many Saturdays we come home feeling so wonderful about practice and your coaching, and I hope this helps you to know how much your family means to us. Because of you we really do "love the game"!
Sincerely, Kimberly
|
Dear Coach,
Your camp sounds wonderful and
I truly believe that camps like yours are very beneficial to all people involved.
I promise, that is my schedule ever opens up to allow me a free Saturday, I will stop by to say hello.
I wish you continued success in your endeavor to encourage kids to be the best they can be, in all aspects of life.
Mike Bellotti Head Football Coach University of Oregon

Dear Coach Coelho,
Congratulations! The article "Every Second Counts!" which you submitted to Winning Hoops
has been selected to appear in our Spring/Summer 2003 issue. I think that coaches around the world
will implement your innovative time management tips into their teams' attack. I think you'll be
happy to see that hte article turned out really nice and I'm positive that other coaches will love it!
We hope that you will continue to send us your articles, blackboard plays and strategic ideas.
Once again, thank you for another tremendous contribution.
Sincerely, Michael Podoll, Managing Editor, Winning Hoops

Dear Joe,
Thank you for helping with the Oregon Basketball Camp. We couldn't have had such a successful
camp without your help. We enjoyed having you on campus and hope you'll be able to help us out again next summer.
Thanks again for your help.

Dear Joe,
I was thinking about how much you have helped me; how you gave me a chance when other people turned their backs; how
you tought me not just how to be successful in basketball but also in life. I realized how I was using what you taught me at basketball
both on and off the court.
Last year I had trouble dribbling, shooting, passing, and figuring out middle school. Then Jonathon took me to your
basketball camp. When you talked at the end of practice and I remember you saying, "If you go on a walk bring your basketball." About
two weeks later my mom decided to go on a walk. She asked me if I wanted to go and I said, "Sure." Just as we left the house I remebered
what you said and went and got my basketball. We had gone about maybe a mile and a half when I see your truck coming down the road! You
stopped by and said, "You're on the team." I will never forget that moment and how it taught me to work even when no one is looking.
That is one of the many things you have tought me.
I wrote this letter so you could know how much of a difference you have made in my life and to tell you how much I
appreciate all the things you have taught me. There isn't enough paper in the world for me to write down how much you have helped me.
All I can really say is Thank you!
From,
Thomas

Thank you so much, Joe. Our son's confidence in his skills has grown in large part due to your excellent coaching.

Dear Coach Coelho,
Thank You for sponsoring me.
I also want to thank you for motivating me.
Without you motivating me, I would not be training so hard.
And I want to thank you for putting some much time into us kids, I really appreciate it.

not only for us, but what I see in the other kids and their families too.

Dear Coach,
Thank you for sponsoring me to the Willamette Basketball Camp.
I liked learning the triple threat.
I am glad you are helping me to go to these camps.
I promise I'll work hard.
Gratefully, Max

Joe,
I am really so very impressed with how you coach the "whole kid" helping them
be empathetic and competitive all at once. Your skill in accomplishing this is quite amazing.
Laurene
|
Joe,
Nevin is absolutely loving the Royal Basketball Academy. Your focus on
carefully designed drills to develop skills, the variety through the day,
and the chance to play some games every time makes it a real hit. I am so
impressed at how you have multiple things happening so that the kids have so
little "waiting their turn" time. They are almost continually practicing. I
figure that a 1.5 hour practice at the Academy is worth about 4-5 hours of
practice on a regular team.
Ted

Joe,
Thank you very much for providing Ren with a wonderful opportunity to work with young girls playing basketball. She had a great time and learned quite a bit about the other side---coaching.

We feel tremendously blessed to be part of such great teaching and discipline. I thoroughly
enjoy helping out all I can and look forward to the future growth of RBA. I'm pretty confident
the interest will continue to grow and the talent of the kids will continue to blossom. I appreciate
beyond words what you do with your time and your passion for the kids. I've been coaching Jordan for
the past 3 years and coached all types of teams for another 6 years and I continue to learn every week
from you. Not only has Jordan become a better ball player, but I am becoming a better coach because of
your influence. "If you are not growing, you are dying!" Jordan and I continue to grow every week. Thank
you for all you do.
Mr. Eddie Alexander

Thank you for the Adcademy. I marvel at what is happening there!
Mr. James

We appreciate your coaching efforts!! Our son is really learning a lot.
Now he shoots baskets every free moment of the day.

THANKS for all you do for my daughter and all the
others. You are so dedicated in helping and sharing
what you know.

I think you should know that the high school basketball coach was talking with us last week and said that our daughter
was better than the 8th grade girls he was working with. Our daughter told us that it was because she was working at
the Academy with you...what a compliment for you! Thank you for your efforts.
|
Thanks for making the academy a fantastic experience for our daughter and all the girls. She has very much
improved on her skills, focus and attitude under your guidance.
T.A.
|
Both of my kids are doing really well This season. Our daughter had 9 points, 11 rebounds 4 steals in her last game.
Our son had a huge game last Saturday,
17 points, 14 rebounds, 5 steals, 5-6 assists and a couple of blocked shots.
That was his best game ever, the training has been receiving at Royal is really paying off. Thank You so much.
Sincerely, The Bollingers
|
So many kids do not get enough repetition of drills and fundamentals with the few practices they have with
Kidsports or YMCA. Your camp can really make a difference for those kids that just need more one on one and
practice. That's where you play such an important part. You make the kids that have skills and talent even better
and the ones that need more time have huge results from your time and camp.

Article from The Register-Guard (Friday, July 12, 2002/City Region)
HEAT
But for sheer bravado, credit goes to a group of kids who didn't beat the heat at all.
Instead, they bested it.
Boys training at the Royal Basketball Academy, a one-man operation organized by Eugene Resident Joe Coelho, did their regular work out: a four-mile run-and-shoot exercise.
The 11-year-olds head out about 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday, running the bike path that skirts Belt Line Road from Royal Avenue to Barger Drive. The run a couple of blocks, stop and shoot baskets against the sound wall, then run some more.
Their goal, 100 dribbling miles in a weekly four-mile increments.
This week, Coelho almost called off the exercise. "All day, my wife is going, 'Honey, you better cancel,'" Coelho said. And a couple of times, he headed for the phone.
But he kept thinking that if his kids could train in this kind of weather, they could do almost anything.
So he sat tight and waited. At 5:30 p.m., his largest group yet showed up; 11 stalwarts.
And off they went. Coelho carried water with him and had one of the parents meet the boys halfway with a bucket of ice water.
"I'm so proud of them," he said. "On the toughest, hottest day, they were training harder then anybody else."
